Howdy there,

I finished reading this book just now.

It’s Sunday night and, just like last week, I crammed about 33% of the book to check it off. Not good. Next week I’ll ensure I put my 1hr of reading daily so that I can finish my books before Sunday or even Saturday. Give time to more deeply digest the lessons learned.

Alas, life aint’ perfect.

I think I’ve read this book before. And some of the ideas are common in some form in different self-help authors. However, I want these concepts more deeply ingrained into my being. I intend on re-reading this book at least 3 more times this year and also keep the list of title chapters as a wallpaper to view often.

What did I learn from this book?

  1. Get used to doing the most difficult things first thing in the morning.
  2. The concept of discipline, prioritization, and other character traits as being skills you can learn instead of some esoteric ideas.
  3. List all the steps towards a goal, then putting them in order before executing. Nice and simple.
  4. Idea of forced efficiency — Identifying the areas where you’re slow, then making them more efficient so that you’re quicker and more productive.
  5. Planning ahead of time what you’ll do and when.
  6. “Salami slicing” tasks. If you’ve broken shit down in chunks, and they still look difficult, make the parts smaller.
  7. The concept of proactively “procrastinating” by “allowing” yourself to procrastinate on lower priority tasks.

I don’t like that I failed to commit to my daily reading and ended up cramming at the end of the week.

Tomorrow and the days after I’ll commit to my 1hr minimum reading session.

Until next time!

Thomas
