The other morning, I had a sudden movie-style “scene cut” where in one moment I’m writing a piece of copy on my laptop and then suddenly I’m across the room doing something else.

I was surprised by the memory gap…

I wasn’t conscious my getting up and moving away from the laptop and doing shadow boxing and hitting my punching bag.

I exercise around 5 to 6 days a week and yes it’s good for you in general but not when it’s an escape from writing difficulties.

Sometime while typing I felt stuck and annoyed and bam, off to the boxing bag I went.

I’m currently rereading Steven Pressfield’s book “the War of Art” and this was a symptom of what he’d call Resistance.

That force that stops you from starting or finishing any project, endeavor, or artistic creation.

I’m glad I was aware of this though.

I suspect the habit of meditation helped me.

Anyway, what’s the takeaway here?

That it’s possible for your brain to seek escapes from challenges through positive habits such as exercising.

Until next time
